Federico Faggin is an Italian-American physicist, engineer and inventor, and one of the pioneers of the microprocessor. He led the design of the Intel 4004, the first commercial microprocessor. In his later philosophical work he argues that consciousness and free will are fundamental and cannot be reduced to classical computation. This is a speculative ontological position, not a consensus view in physics or neuroscience.
